Tree Service in Melvindale, MI

Melvindale is one of the smallest and densest cities Downriver — under three square miles, packed with narrow lots and small homes built mostly between the 1920s and the 1950s to house Ford and steel workers. The tree situation is a direct product of that history: century-old street plantings, mature back yard trees, and almost no room to work.

It is close to us, and it is exactly the kind of tight urban tree work our crews do every week. Lot lines eight feet from the trunk, garages at the back, alleys, and overhead wires running through everything.

Century-old plantings on 30-foot lots

The trees that were planted along Melvindale streets when the city was building out are now well past a hundred years old in some cases. Silver maple, Norway maple, elm and a few surviving oaks make up most of what is left. At that age these trees have significant internal decay, extensive deadwood, and limb structure that was never pruned properly at any point in the last fifty years.

The industrial history also matters. Soil in parts of Melvindale is compacted and poor, with fill from decades of nearby heavy industry. Compacted soil starves roots of oxygen, which stresses trees and makes them more susceptible to everything else. It is a big part of why trees here decline earlier than the same species in Allen Park or Riverview.

Where we work in Melvindale

We work the whole city: the neighborhoods off Oakwood and Allen Road, the streets around Melvindale High School, the sections near the Rouge River corridor, and the residential blocks bordering Dearborn and Lincoln Park. Many properties have alley access, which is a genuine advantage — a chipper in the alley turns a hard job into a straightforward one.

We also do a good deal of work here for rental property owners, where a hazard tree over a tenant's unit is a liability that needs handling quickly and documented properly.

Nearby, insured and used to tight quarters

On a Melvindale lot, a company that fells trees rather than dismantling them is a hazard. There is nowhere to fell anything. Every job here is rope work, and the crew has to be comfortable working over a neighbor's roof eight feet away.

We are also insured and we hand you the certificate before we start. On dense blocks where a mistake reaches three properties, that is not paperwork — it is the whole reason to hire a real company.

What customers say

From our 80 Google reviews. These are customers from across our Michigan service area rather than Melvindale specifically — we do not put words in anyone's mouth about where they live.

We recently were in need of tree service and called One of a Kind. We cannot say enough about the job they did. The crew was great, they were professional, personable and left our yard clean, not a twig out of place. We have already passed the name One of a Kind on to a neighbor with the highest recommendation.

I just had One of a Kind Tree Service remove a large, dead evergreen in my backyard and I couldn't be happier with the results or service. The owner Eddie came the same day after I called him and gave me a price quote that was several hundred dollars less than I expected. They came out this morning, cut the tree down, removed it and ground out the stump. The crew, Paul and Steven, were great! They were careful not to damage anything as they worked. Awesome work!

Melvindale tree service FAQs

There is no room in my yard to drop a tree. Is that a problem?
No. We almost never fell trees in Melvindale — everything comes down in controlled sections on rigging lines. The tighter the lot, the more the job is about ropes rather than saws.
Can you show proof of insurance before starting?
Yes, and you should insist on it from anyone. We provide the certificate before work begins. If an uninsured worker is injured on your property, that exposure lands on you.
