It is a city of well-kept single-family homes with decent-sized yards, which makes for straightforward tree work: usually enough room to get equipment reasonably close, usually enough drop zone to work efficiently, and usually homeowners who want the job done properly rather than just cheaply.
A 1960s canopy hitting its limits
Riverview's tree population is heavy on the species that were popular when the subdivisions went in: silver maple, Norway maple, honey locust, blue spruce and a lot of ash. The ash are almost entirely gone or dead now, and we still find standing dead ash at the back of Riverview lots and along fence lines that homeowners have been putting off dealing with.
The Norway maples are the sleeper problem. They are dense, they shade out everything beneath them, and they very commonly develop girdling roots that slowly compress the trunk. A Norway maple with no visible root flare and a thin upper canopy is on borrowed time, and it usually looks fine right up until the year it does not.
Where we work in Riverview
We work the entire city — the neighborhoods off Sibley Road and Fort Street, the streets around Riverview Community High School, the sections near the Riverview Highlands golf course, and the residential blocks bordering Wyandotte and Trenton. The land rises noticeably around the Highlands area, which is unusual for Downriver and gives those properties slightly better drainage and healthier root systems than the flat clay elsewhere.
Because we are so close, Riverview gets some of our fastest turnaround. A morning call frequently means an afternoon estimate.
