Tree Service in Rockwood, MI

Rockwood is the southern edge of Wayne County, a small city of a couple thousand people straddling the Huron River just before it reaches Lake Erie. It has more in common with a Monroe County town than with the dense Downriver cities to the north: bigger lots, more open land, older housing stock near the river and newer building on the outskirts.

Being small does not mean the trees are small. Some of the largest hardwoods we work on are on Rockwood properties, where a house went up on land that was never fully cleared and a two-hundred-year-old oak or sycamore came with it.

Old trees on old ground

The Huron River bottomland running through Rockwood supports big sycamore, silver maple, cottonwood and swamp white oak, along with the box elder and green ash that fill in anywhere disturbed. On the higher ground away from the river you find better-quality hardwoods — white oak, hickory, black cherry — that are genuinely worth preserving.

The practical problem in Rockwood is that many properties have mature trees close to structures that were built afterward. A century-old oak fifteen feet from a house is not necessarily hazardous, but it does need deadwood pulled out and clearance kept, and it needs someone who can tell the difference between a tree that is aging normally and one that is failing.

Where we work in Rockwood

We cover the city and the surrounding area: the older neighborhoods near Huron River Drive and Fort Street, the newer building toward Will Carleton Road, and the more rural parcels along the township edges. Lot sizes here generally allow good equipment access, which makes jobs faster and cheaper than the equivalent work in Wyandotte or Lincoln Park.

We also do a fair amount of fence line and back-acre clearing in Rockwood, where properties run deep and the back third has grown into buckthorn and volunteer box elder.

Small town, full-size equipment

A lot of small communities get served by whoever has a pickup and a chainsaw. That works until you have a ninety-foot oak leaning over the house, and then it very much does not.

We bring the same equipment and the same crew to Rockwood that we bring to a commercial job in Detroit. Being at the south end of the county does not mean settling for less.

What customers say

From our 80 Google reviews. These are customers from across our Michigan service area rather than Rockwood specifically — we do not put words in anyone's mouth about where they live.

On time for estimate and on time showing up to start work. The crew worked tirelessly through cold, stopped only for snow and promptly returned next day. They were careful of wires, fences, houses, hot tub, and even the memorial tree for my mom that was only a sapling — I didn't even mention this to them. They put a marker stick in to watch out for it. They locked up all gates and doors after and were careful of the property.

Had a handful of different companies come out and quote removing a 40-ish foot maple tree next to my garage. One of a Kind came in with the lowest bid but had immediate availability compared to others being 3-4 weeks out. Crew did a great clean up, and were methodical in their removal process. Spent their time removing piece by piece.

Rockwood tree service FAQs

Do you travel to Rockwood for a single tree?
Yes. It is about twenty-five minutes from our Southgate shop and we work the south end of the county regularly. There is no minimum-job hurdle to get us out for an estimate.
I have a very old, very large oak near my house. Does it have to come down?
Often not. Large old oaks in this area are frequently structurally sound and just need deadwood removed and clearance restored. We will tell you honestly whether you are looking at maintenance or a removal.
