Tree Service in Farmington Hills, MI

Farmington Hills is large, green and built substantially into existing woodland. Roughly thirty-three square miles with generous lot sizes, extensive parkland along the Rouge River branches, and subdivisions that retained real tree cover rather than clearing it.

That means genuine woodlot conditions on residential property: mature native hardwoods, deep shade, understory competition and the specific challenges that come with managing trees that grew in a stand rather than in a lawn.

Native hardwoods on residential lots

The retained woodlots across Farmington Hills carry white and red oak, shagbark hickory, black cherry, sugar maple, American beech and tulip poplar. These are quality trees that live a long time and hold up structurally far better than the planted landscape stock in newer suburbs.

They also come with woodlot problems. Stand-grown trees have tall straight trunks, high canopies and less taper than open-grown trees, which makes them vulnerable when neighbors are removed and they suddenly carry full wind load. Oak wilt is present in Oakland County, which makes the April-to-July pruning restriction on oaks genuinely important here. And beech bark disease is working through the mature beech population across this part of the state.

Where we work in Farmington Hills

We work throughout the city — the subdivisions off Twelve Mile, Fourteen Mile and Middlebelt, the wooded neighborhoods near Heritage Park and the Rouge River branches, the areas around North Farmington and Harrison high schools, the Orchard Lake and Halsted corridors, and the sections bordering Farmington, West Bloomfield and Novi.

Properties backing onto parkland or river corridor deserve particular attention. Edge trees along those boundaries carry wind exposure that interior trees do not, and they are where storm failures concentrate.

Oak country means oak wilt rules

Farmington Hills has a lot of oak, and oak wilt is present in Oakland County. That makes the pruning window a practical matter rather than a technicality.

We prune oaks between November and mid-March, and we do not make exceptions for convenience. If you have an oak that needs work in June and it is not a genuine hazard, we will schedule it for winter and tell you why.

What customers say

From our 80 Google reviews. These are customers from across our Michigan service area rather than Farmington Hills specifically — we do not put words in anyone's mouth about where they live.

The owner is very reasonable and communicates perfectly. His crew is careful and detailed in every aspect. I had a giant maple in my small compact backyard and they managed to move around and get it done with no damage to anything. I highly recommend this company for any and all tree issues and removals.

I was very impressed with their service! After the storm last night, the lightning struck a huge tree in back of my house and split it in the middle of the trunk straight down. I cannot thank them enough for coming to my home quickly to see the damage and give me an estimate. Paul had all his crew here quickly and stayed until dusk to make sure my home would be safe. Their price, professionalism and work ethic are worth every dollar spent.

Farmington Hills tree service FAQs

When can my oak trees be pruned?
November through mid-March. Oak wilt is spread by sap beetles active roughly April through July that are attracted to fresh pruning wounds, and there is no cure once a red oak is infected. Genuine hazards are the only exception, and those wounds get sealed immediately.
My property backs onto parkland. Does that change anything?
Yes. Edge trees along a woodlot boundary carry wind loading that interior trees never see, and they are disproportionately the ones that fail. Those are worth assessing separately from the rest of the property.
