Tree Service in Southfield, MI

Southfield is unusual in that it is simultaneously a major office center and a very green residential city. The office corridors along Northwestern Highway and Telegraph sit alongside neighborhoods with some of the best-treed residential lots in southern Oakland County, many built into existing woodlots in the 1950s and 60s.

That split gives us two distinct kinds of work here: commercial and multi-family property management on one side, and mature residential canopy care on the other.

Retained woodlot trees and heavy commercial canopy

Southfield residential neighborhoods, particularly in the north and west of the city, were built with substantial existing tree cover retained. That means oak, hickory, beech and sugar maple on residential lots rather than just planted landscape stock — trees that are seventy to well over a hundred years old and structurally much better than the postwar silver maples common further south.

The commercial and multi-family properties are a different inventory: planted parking lot trees, mostly honey locust, maple, pear and linden, generally thirty to fifty years old and frequently neglected. Parking lot trees live hard lives — compacted soil, restricted root space, salt exposure and reflected heat — and they need more attention than they usually get.

Where we work in Southfield

We work throughout the city — the residential neighborhoods off Nine Mile, Ten Mile and Eleven Mile, the areas near Southfield-Lathrup and the Civic Center, the office corridors along Northwestern Highway and Telegraph, and the apartment and condominium properties throughout the city.

Commercial work here is a substantial part of what we do. Certificates of insurance, written scopes, scheduled work windows outside business hours, and documented reports for property managers and boards are standard rather than special requests.

Property managers get paperwork, not excuses

If you manage commercial or multi-family property, you know the frustration: a contractor who does good work but cannot produce a certificate of insurance naming the right entity, or an invoice that matches the approved scope.

We handle that side properly. Documentation before the crew arrives, work scheduled around your tenants, and a written report on what we found so you can budget the next cycle.

What customers say

From our 80 Google reviews. These are customers from across our Michigan service area rather than Southfield specifically — we do not put words in anyone's mouth about where they live.

After receiving a $30,000 quote to remove 2 very large maples from our backyard after a tornado knocked several large limbs from the trees, we received an amazing quote from One of a Kind to not only remove the maple trees and tree stumps, they also cleaned up the rest of the storm damage in our yard. I highly recommend One of a Kind. The tree crew were professional and respectful. Their work ethic is incredible.

I live in Detroit and it is hard to find any company to do a job in my area. I required a tree cut down that was up against my garage and I had requested quotes from two other companies that both passed on it because of where it was located. One of a Kind was the only one that gave me a reasonable quote and did just what they quoted to do the job. They turned out to be the best company for me.

Southfield tree service FAQs

Can you work outside business hours at our office property?
Yes. Early mornings, evenings and weekends are common on Southfield office and retail properties so the lot stays usable. It costs somewhat more and it keeps your tenants happy.
Our parking lot trees look terrible. Can they be saved?
Often, partially. Parking lot trees suffer from compacted soil, restricted root space and salt, and once the canopy is significantly declined it rarely fully recovers. We will tell you which ones are worth pruning and which are better replaced.
