Historic street trees and mature private canopy
The older Plymouth neighborhoods have a species mix you rarely see in postwar suburbs: sugar maple, red oak, white oak, American linden, and a few surviving elms. These are long-lived hardwoods that were planted before silver maple became the default, and many are eighty to a hundred and twenty years old.
Trees at that age need proper deadwooding, careful reduction where limbs have extended over roofs, and honest assessment of internal decay. They also need someone who understands that a hundred-year-old sugar maple is not replaceable and should not be removed because it dropped a branch. The Township areas outside the city carry a younger, more suburban mix.
