That makes Livonia a pruning city more than a removal city. Homeowners here tend to want their trees maintained rather than taken out, and there is enough good material in the ground to make that worthwhile.
Retained woodlots and a healthier species mix
Because Livonia developed later and on larger parcels, a lot of the original woodlot trees were kept rather than cleared. That means genuine oak, hickory, black cherry and beech in back yards across the city — species that live a long time and are structurally far better than the fast-growing silver maples that dominate the older inner-ring suburbs.
Livonia also has substantial park and greenbelt acreage, and properties backing onto those areas inherit the conditions: taller trees, more competition, more shade, and edge trees that grew up sheltered and are suddenly exposed when neighboring trees come out. That last one is a real phenomenon — a tree that spent forty years in a stand does not have the taper or root structure to stand alone, and removing its neighbors makes it vulnerable.

We work throughout the city — the neighborhoods off Six Mile, Seven Mile and Eight Mile, the areas near Laurel Park and the Newburgh corridor, the subdivisions around Stevenson and Churchill high schools, the older sections in the southeast toward Plymouth Road, and the properties bordering Hines Park and the Middle Rouge.
Hines Park frontage is worth calling out. Those properties have mature edge trees, floodplain soil and real wind exposure along the corridor, and they generate a steady share of our Livonia storm work.

Good trees deserve proper pruning
Livonia has enough quality hardwood in residential yards that the right approach is usually maintenance. Deadwood out, clearance restored, weak unions addressed, and the tree keeps doing its job for another thirty years.
That is a smaller invoice than a removal and it is the correct recommendation more often than not here. We would rather be the company you call every four years than the one you call once.
