That uniformity is the defining feature of Westland tree work. When an entire city plants silver maple and ash in 1962, an entire city has the same problem in 2026. We do a lot of removals here, and a lot of stump grinding, because whole streets reach the same decision point together.
One planting era, one set of problems
The dominant species in Westland subdivisions are silver maple, Norway maple, honey locust, ash and blue spruce, with Bradford pear appearing in the later 1970s developments. The ash are dead. The spruce are losing their lower branches to needle cast. The silver maples are sixty-plus years old with hollow centers becoming common.
The soil is heavy clay across most of the city, which keeps root systems shallow and makes trees more prone to tipping in wind than the same species would be on better-drained ground. It also makes stump grinding slower going than in sandy soil — worth knowing when you get a quote.

When one house on a Westland street needs a maple out, there is a good chance three neighbors do too. If you can coordinate with them, the price per property drops meaningfully — mobilization is the same whether we do one tree or four on a block.
